Description
Abraham Bowman Release No. 23 12 Year is an American Whiskey from A. Smith Bowman Distillery in Fredericksburg, Virginia. This 2024 release is the inaugural Abraham Bowman Oak Series bottling, blending whiskeys aged 12 years in French Oak barrels – some charred, some uncharred – to balance vanilla sweetness against peppery oak.
The Abraham Bowman Oak Series joins the Abraham Bowman Limited Edition Collection as an experimental sub-line exploring oak varietals from around the world and the effect of char level on whiskey flavor. The Abraham Bowman name honors the great-grandfather of distillery founder Abram Smith Bowman, a colonel of Virginia’s 8th Regiment in the American Revolution. A. Smith Bowman is Virginia’s oldest distillery and operates under Sazerac.
On the nose, it shows cherry and caramel. The palate brings sweet vanilla, pronounced spice, and oak from the extended aging, and the finish carries crisp cinnamon apple.
Built on an award-winning mash bill and matured entirely in French Oak, this release opens an ongoing oak-varietal exploration from Head Distiller David Bock. It drinks well neat or over a single large cube.
