Orphan Barrel Forged Oak is a 90.5 Proof (45.25% ABV) straight bourbon produced as a limited release from the Orphan Barrel Whiskey Co. This 2015 expression utilizes a high-corn mash bill of 86% corn, 8% malted barley, and 6% rye, originally distilled in 1999 at the Bernheim Distillery (DSP-KY-1) in Louisville. The liquid matured for 15 years within the historic Stitzel-Weller rickhouses in Shively, Kentucky.
This period of aging in a traditional seasonal climate allowed for a robust wood influence that characterizes the spirit’s structural depth. The resulting profile is sophisticated and firm, leading with aromas of seasoned oak and cocoa that transition into a palate of black pepper, maple syrup, and dried berries with a long, woody finish of charred cedar and vanilla.
