Description
Winemakers in Italy are true artists, the Michelangelo’s and da Vinci’s of their craft. Wines that come from the country are beloved throughout the world for their stylistic diversity, ability to pair with all types of foods, and unique varietals. Italy’s classification system regulates the wine industry so that all producers regardless of size are held to the same standards. In the early 1990s, the IGT classification (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) was created to allow more freedom and creativity for winemakers. Super Tuscan wines are a perfect example of a wine that benefitted from the introduction of the IGT classification. The term “Super Tuscan” is broadly used to describe red blends from Tuscany that include Italian varietals as well as those not native to the country, typically Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. This beautiful Super Tuscan leads with Sangiovese and has Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon blended in as well. Full-bodied and fruit-forward, this wine is perfect for pairing with tomato-based Italian dishes. It is easy to enjoy and will be gone before you know it!
