Description
In the famous 2004 movie Sideways, one of the characters chastises the Merlot grape, saying to a group “If anyone orders Merlot, I’m leaving!”. Winemakers disagree completely, and unanimously agree that the movie got it all wrong. Merlot is a beautiful varietal known for its full-bodied texture and soft fruit profile. It is celebrated in Bordeaux as a noble grape but also thrives in California. With a continental climate of warm sunny days and cooler temperatures at night, California’s vast terroirs are idyllic for grape growing. The majority of the rainfall occurs outside of the growing season, but also can cool down the heat spikes that often occur just after bud break in the spring. This wine in particular is plush and opulent. Dark-fruit flavors are complemented by notes of dried herbs and easy, velvety tannins round out the mouthfeel making every sip linger. This Merlot will shine alongside roasted or braised meats and root vegetables; a perfect bottle for a cool fall evening.
