Cooling oceanic currents and storms protect grapevines from drought and the extreme temperatures that could lead to overripening. Local winds, known as the “Cape Doctor,” prevent mildew by sweeping moisture out of the vineyards. In these conditions, Viognier grapes can ripen comfortably over a long, dry growing season, developing their glorious spectrum of potent, perfumed aromas and rich fruit flavor.
