Since the late 19th century, the Mendoza region of Argentina has produced some of the finest wines in the western hemisphere. While the region’s climate is semi-arid desert, the seasons rarely reach extreme temperatures. This allows for unparalleled consistency in harvest yields and grape quality from year to year. The high altitudes are also believed to contribute to the consistent quality of their wines, particularly their Malbecs. Scientists are not sure why this is, but it is a matter of continuing study, and great excitement, to makers and lovers of wine everywhere.

The Benegas Estate Tiburcio 2010 combines five wines to create an extraordinary tasting experience. Composed of 50% Malbec from the delightful Uco Valley, the remainder is made up of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, with small additions of Merlot and Petit Verdot. This complex composition shows distinctly on the nose, with aromas of black and red fruits, spices, and herbs. Aged for ten months in oak casks, the aroma is then rounded out with notes of vanilla and cocoa. In the mouth, the flavors are high impact, with round tannins thanks to a careful blending of the five varietals. The finish is long and lingering, ending on a crisp, delectable note of fresh herbs.
