Hawthorne Grove’s first vintage, the 2013 Pinot Noir Monterey, took a double gold medal at the 2016 New York International Wine Competition and led to Hawthorne Grove being named Monterey County’s 2016 Pinot Noir Winery of the Year. The 2015 Pinot Noir California is a worthy successor, winning gold medals at both the 2017 West Coast Wine Competition and the 2017 Hilton Head Wine and Food Festival, as well as a double gold at the 2017 New York International Wine Competition.
WINEMAKER:
This vintage was produced by winemaker Bob Swain, formerly of renowned Napa winery Clos Du Val. A landmark American winery, Clos Du Val made history by placing in the top 10 at the historic 1976 Judgment of Paris, a feat that was unexpected for any California winery at the time and cemented American wines as world-class. Since then, Clos Du Val has produced some of California’s most important vintages, and Bob Swain has gained a reputation as a master of American Pinot Noir.
TASTING NOTES:
Hawthorne Grove 2015 Pinot Noir was made using grapes from three distinct regions selected for their unique microclimates and terroirs. The volcanic soil of the Sierra Foothills creates soft round textures with flavors of ripe red fruit and Bing cherry, while grapes from Mendocino County introduce notes of dried strawberries and herbs. The wine is balanced with the sweet plum and juicy raspberry flavors found in grapes from the Lodi AVA,This combination creates a complex, fruit-forward wine that continues Hawthorne Grove’s lineage of gold medal Pinot Noirs.
