Description
Woodford Reserve Distillery Series Five Wood is an ultra-complex finishing allocation masterminded by Master Distiller Chris Morris and released in June 2020. This expression represents a highly technical study in multi-cask maturation, extending the barrel architecture of the brand’s popular Double Oaked expression into five separate wood profiles. The process began with fully matured, triple copper pot distilled bourbon—crafted from the distillery’s signature 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley mash bill—matured in standard new charred American white oak. The spirit was then transferred and aged sequentially in four other unique secondary finishing casks before bottling: premium Tawny Port, Ruby Port, Oloroso Sherry, and Amontillado Sherry wine casks.
Bottled at 90.4 proof, its rich, high-viscosity structural framework is defined by a dense saturation of vinous dark fruit sugars and heavy oak tannins, delivering intense aromas of dried fruit, molasses, and dark chocolate, with a palate of dark prune, fig, and espresso beans that concludes with a long, dry wood finish.
