Description
Described as a ‘Rockstar winemaker’ by the Houston Press, Pax Mahle has spent more than a decade mastering the art of making wine. A towering figure in the wine world, with a reputation that few can match, Mahle has experimented with a wide array of winemaking techniques and grape varietals in the pursuit of the perfect blends. Merging New World technology-driven methods with time-tested Old World traditions, he’s developed distinctive, flavorful wines that are normally given 90+ scores by reviewers and sold at retail for at least $50/bottle.
Teaming up with Food & Wine’s executive wine editor, Ray Isle, and three Food & Wine readers, Mahle created this phenomenal red blend exclusively for members of the Firstleaf wine club. The Milieaux 2015 Legacy Red blends a remarkable six varieties of grapes: Petite Syrah, Zinfandel, Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. On the nose, floral scents predominate, accentuated by aromas of dark fruit, dark chocolate, and hints of exotic spice. In the mouth, red and black currants lead, followed by flavors of cherry, pepper, and herbs. The Petite Syrah and the fruity Zinfandel balance each other nicely, while the Syrah contributes the cherry and spice notes. The Cabernet Franc and Malbec likewise work in concert to give the wine a pleasant feeling of roundness in the mouth.
This wine was created exclusively for Firstleaf members and, with only a limited batch available, you’ll want to be sure to get a bottle of this amazing wine before we’re out of stock!
