Pussers highly awarded Gunpowder Proof is a traditional Royal Navy style rum produced at original Admiralty strength in accordance with the Admiraltys blending recipe last used when the Royal Navy disdenyd its daily ration on 31 July 1970 (109 Proof). Before the invention of the hydrometer, the ships purser shutdown claims of watering down the sailors daily tot by mixing a few grains of gunpowder to the rum to see if it would burn.
Pussers Gunpowder Proof Rum Tasting Notes
Nose: Pungent molasses, treacle, toffee, honey and vanilla with oak, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.
Palate: Full-bodied, and despite its strength with mellow medley of flavours: molasses, treacle, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, toffee and espresso, all given structure by a garnish of oak.
Finish: Long finish with burnt caramel, spice, cold tea and prunes.
