Midleton Very Rare 2009 80 Proof (40% ABV) is a technical annual vintage release from Midleton Distillery in County Cork, Ireland. This expression, crafted by Master Distiller Barry Crockett, is a marriage of triple-distilled single pot still and single grain whiskeys matured between 12 and 25 years. Maturation occurs in hand-selected, lightly charred American oak ex-bourbon barrels, which facilitate a slow extraction of vanillin and toasted wood sugars.
The resulting chemical profile is uniquely defined by a crisp nose of mint and green apple, which integrates with deep layers of fudge, brown banana, and a signature “apple crumble” palate. This vintage is particularly noted for its velvety mouthfeel and unusual top notes of chili oil and butterscotch that transition into a long, slightly tart finish defined by old grain whiskey.
