Description
From the 1.22-hectare Massara vineyard in Verduno—the northernmost commune of the Barolo zone—Castello di Verduno Barolo Massara 2017 is crafted entirely from Nebbiolo grown on calcareous clay soils at 265 meters elevation with east-southeast exposure. Hand-harvested grapes undergo 35 days of maceration with spontaneous fermentation using native yeasts in wooden vats. Castello di Verduno Barolo Massara 2017 then ages 32 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by steel tank rest and 21 months of bottle aging before release. The 2017 vintage reflects a hot, dry growing season, producing a mid-weight, translucent expression of the cru.
