La Spinetta Pin 2018

Description

Named for Giorgio Rivetti’s father Giuseppe whose nickname was “Pin”. Giuseppe founded La Spinetta in 1977 with Giorgio’s mother Lidia. The wine is a blend 65% Nebbiolo from the Starderi vineyard in Nieve and 35% Barbera d’Asti “Bionzo”. 14% ABV

First produced in 1989, this wine is dedicated to Giorgio Rivetti’s father, who was nicknamed Pin. It starts with cedar, eucalyptus and pressed flowers. As it opens, intriguing notes of sweet wild raspberry, cocoa and liquorice emerge. At the moment, the palate is slightly angular with dusty tannins and tangy, concentrated acidity. Wait a year for the oak to settle in and the structure to soften. Lots to chew on here. Drinking Window 2024 – 2032.
