Description
Woodford Reserve Distillery Series Double Double Oaked is a highly coveted, high-viscosity technical allocation bottled in late 2020 but released in early 2021. Masterminded by Master Distiller Chris Morris, this expression represents an extreme extension of the brand’s standard Double Oaked maturation architecture. The process began with traditional Woodford bourbon—matured in standard new charred American oak—which was then transferred into a secondary, heavily toasted and lightly charred oak barrel for a full two year of additional maturation. To achieve the “Double Double” profile, the liquid underwent the final finishing cycle for not one, but two years in the heavily toasted and lightly charred oak barrels. This is one year more than the standard Double Oak expression.
Bottled at 90.4 proof, its structural framework is defined by a dense, syrupy body that minimizes grain notes in favor of concentrated wood compounds. The technical profile delivers a heavy saturation of sweet oak vanillins, featuring bold aromas of maple syrup, dark chocolate, and roasted hazelnut, with a rich palate of blackberry jam, dark caramel, and a long, warming finish of dry clove.
