Description
The
1967 Old Fitzgerald “Very Very Old” 12-Year-Old Bourbon is a highly collectible vintage whiskey distilled at the legendary
Stitzel-Weller Distillery under the leadership of Julian “Pappy” Van Winkle. This expression is a
100-proof Bottled-in-Bond wheated bourbon that was distilled in 1955 and bottled in 1967.
Product Details:
- Stitzel-Weller Pedigree: This bottle contains 100% Stitzel-Weller distillate, produced during the era when “Pappy” Van Winkle personally supervised the distillery.
- The Julian II Era: Since Pappy passed away in 1965, this specific 1967 release was “dumped” and bottled by his son, Julian Van Winkle II.
- Bonding Laws: Before 1958, the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 limited “bonded” labels to whiskey aged 8 years or less. A change in the law allowed Stitzel-Weller to legally release this 12-year-old bonded expression.
- Nose: Rich aromas of brown sugar, walnuts, maple syrup, and old leather.
- Palate: A buttery mouthfeel with flavors of molasses, star anise, dark chocolate, and “corn sweet” notes that lack the sharp heat of younger whiskeys.
- Finish: Long and cooling with lingering notes of mint, oaky vanilla, and a hint of tobacco.
