WhistlePig The Boss Hog 1st Edition Straight Rye Whiskey is bottled at a cask strength of 134.2 proof (varying slightly by barrel between 134 and 136 proof). Sourced from Alberta Distillers, Canada, and independently finished and hand-bottled at the WhistlePig Farm Distillery in Shoreham, Vermont, this 2013 release represents the inaugural release of the highly collectible The Boss Hog series. The mash bill consists of 100% rye. The liquid underwent primary maturation for 12 years in New American oak barrels within Canadian climate conditions, before being moved to Vermont for final single-barrel selection.
This debut version is unvatted, non-chill filtered, and features no secondary cask finishing, presenting the unadulterated technical profile of aged, high-proof straight rye. The nose displays powerful mint, cinnamon toast, and citrus zest. On the palate, a heavy rye spice upfront delivers notes of butterscotch, rich caramel, and vanilla. The experience concludes with a long, warming finish accented by dark chocolate, red pepper heat, and charred wood.
