2017 Woodford Reserve Distillery Series Blended Kentucky Rye Whiskey is bottled at 90.4 Proof by the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles, Kentucky. Released in 2017 as the inaugural entry of a limited summer rye trilogy, this technical project marries two distinct historical distillates. The blend consists of 69% 11-year-old straight rye whiskey (53% rye, 33% corn, 14% malted barley mash bill) and 31% 5-year-old rye distilled from a 100% rye mash.
The secondary aging within used Cooperage rather than charred virgin oak prevents heavy, aggressive wood tannins from overtaking the final profile. This dynamic combination shifts extraction away from harsh herbal notes, isolating savory char, exotic black pepper, crisp green orchard fruit, and dark honey.
