Woodford Reserve Distillery Series Blended Malt Sherry Cask Finish is a highly intricate “whiskey specialty” experimental allocation launched on October 4, 2024. Masterminded by Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall, this expression builds directly upon the hybrid malt architectures of the prior July 2024 Blended Malt release, incorporating a secondary finishing cycle in premium Oloroso and Amontillado sherry barrels. This complex, multi-component blend weaves together three distinct streams of liquid: a 100% straight malt whiskey aged in used cooperage and finished in port barrels, a 5 Malted Stouted Mash Malt Whiskey aged in new charred oak barrels, and a foundational 100% straight malt aged in used oak that was finished entirely in the selected sherry casks.
The triple copper pot distilled components are blended and bottled at the distillery’s standard 90.4 proof. Its medium-bodied structural framework leverages the dry, nutty attributes of the oxidized wine wood to temper the sweet malty base. The technical profile delivers refined sherry-infused notes, striking a sophisticated balance between bright dried fruits, toasted nuts, and a dry, smooth texture across a delicate, long finish.
