Woodford Reserve Distillery Series Blended Malt Whiskey is a highly technical, small-batch allocation released in July 2024. Masterminded by Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall, this expression serves as a conceptual precursor to the brand’s subsequent 100% malted barley releases by exploring a hybrid malt architecture. The spirit is a precise marriage of two distinct distillates produced via the distillery’s triple copper pot stills: a 100% straight malt whiskey aged in used barrels, then finished in Ruby Port barrels and a five malt grain blend aged in new oak barrels. Both components were matured independently before being batched together to create a multi-grain malt profile.
Bottled at 90.4 proof, its structural framework balances the nutty depth of barley with the soft, creamy texture of malted wheat. The technical profile delivers a medium-bodied mouthfeel characterized by aromas of shortbread, dry straw, and orchard fruits, expanding on the palate with honeyed malt, vanilla custard, and a crisp, peppery finish of baking spice.
