Description

Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection Rediscovered 1993 Vintage is a Bourbon from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. This 2011 release is drawn from eight new-charred-oak barrels filled on May 13, 1993 and uncovered on the second floor of Warehouse L, then emptied in December 2010 after seventeen years and seven months of forgotten maturation, by which point 43.6% of the contents had evaporated.

The Experimental Collection is Buffalo Trace’s long-running program of one-off whiskeys exploring unique mash bills, woods, barrel toasts, and aging conditions, with more than 2,000 experimental barrels aging in the distillery’s warehouses. The 1993 Rediscovered Vintage was the youngest of three Rediscovered bottlings released together in February 2011 – companions to the 1989 and 1991 vintages – all surfaced during a routine audit of the Old Charter inventory Buffalo Trace acquired in 1998.

On the nose, it shows rich creamy texture with vanilla and caramel notes. The palate brings a whiskey-latte mouthfeel layered with caramel, vanilla, and a touch of rye spice, and the finish carries oranges, cinnamon, and lingering warmth.

The 1993 was the most accessible of the three Rediscovered vintages, with seventeen years of new-charred-oak contact producing rich caramel and citrus-spice character. It drinks well neat or over a single large cube.
