Description
Domaine de l’Ecu Alaya is a biodynamic red wine from the Loire Valley, France, made from the Pineau d’Aunis grape variety. The vineyard spans just 1 hectare, with vines rooted in volcanic Orthogneiss bedrock, contributing to the wine’s unique minerality. In the vineyard, rigorous canopy management is practiced, with soil plowing, scraping, de-budding, and de-leafing all done by hand. The grapes are harvested manually, and after being gently pressed using a pneumatic press, the juice undergoes fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine is then matured for 12 months in amphorae, allowing it to develop a pure and expressive character without fining, filtration, or settling.
On the nose, Alaya offers a compelling blend of bright red fruits, blue flowers, and light spices. The palate is smooth and sophisticated, with silky tannins that lift the wine, creating an elegant and full-bodied experience. Red currants and other red fruits dominate, with a fresh, long finish highlighted by peppery notes and subtle hints of roses and cherry liqueur.
