Description
Envínate’s Albahra is a red blend from the Almansa region near Albacete, at the southeastern tip of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. The name “Albahra,” meaning “small sea” in Castilian, reflects the vineyard’s proximity to the Mediterranean. This wine comprises 70% Garnacha Tintorera (also known as Alicante Bouschet) and 30% Moravia Agria. The Garnacha Tintorera is sourced from a 3-hectare parcel with clay-calcareous soils, while the Moravia Agria comes from a single vineyard on sandy clay-calcareous soils in neighboring Manchuela. Grapes are hand-harvested and vinified separately by parcel. The Garnacha Tintorera undergoes foot-treading with 30-50% stems included and 6-10 days of skin maceration, then ferments and ages on fine lees in concrete for 8 months. The Moravia Agria is completely destemmed, sees 7 days of maceration, and is raised on fine lees in 228L used French barriques for 8 months. The wine is blended and bottled unfined, unfiltered, with minimal sulfur addition.
