Description
The Wine: Frenchtown Farms Waypoint Syrah & Merlot 2022
Aaron and Cara Mockrish faced a significant loss of their Syrah and Merlot crops at Renaissance due to frost, affecting other red varieties as well. They received help from friends who provided fruit from different areas. ‘Waypoint’ is predominantly a Merlot from an organically farmed vineyard in Sonoma, complemented by 15% Grenache from Renaissance Vineyard. The wine, fermented with whole clusters in stainless steel and aged in Amphora and used oak, is noted for its freshness and aromatic qualities, showcasing resilience in adversity.
The Producer: Frenchtown Farms
Since 2015, they have engaged in viticulture and winemaking in North Yuba AVA, surrounding their residence in the historic Frenchtown. Their approach intertwines deeply with natural farming practices, emphasizing manual labor and organic treatments to truly represent their unique terroir. They manage both ancient, dry-farmed vines and newly planted ones on their challenging terrain, adhering to a natural cycle of vine care. Their philosophy extends to minimal intervention in the cellar, allowing the wines to naturally reflect their environment and meticulous vineyard stewardship.
