Description
Lodi is smack in the middle of California’s vast Central Valley that runs up and down the state. Nearly twice the size of the Napa Valley, the appellation is prone to a dry growing season and temperatures that can average over 100 degrees during the summer. At night, temperatures dip a bit, but not significantly. Because of this, delicate grapes do not do well here. Instead, fruit with thick skins that requires little babysitting, and basks in the sunshine, thrives in the environment. Zinfandel is a California classic that loves the sandy soils of the region, which boasts some of the oldest plantings of the varietal. This wine is bold and big, with voluptuous flavors and spicy notes. Firm tannins grip the palate, and every sip makes you want to reach for another glass. It is structured and rich, shining with foods that have rustic flavors.
