Description
Our Izak’s 177 Grenache offers deep, ripe fruit notes with warm oak and spice characteristics. It’s a slight mystery how Grenache first made it to South African soils. The most common theory states that James Busby—”the father of Australian wine”—left cuttings in the Western Cape on his way to Australia in the 1800s. After arriving, it grew here unrecognized until the 1900s, when Abraham Izak Perold identified the plantings as Grenache. Since then, this European grape has found success in Swartland’s warm and dry climate. Vineyards here blanket the sprawling valleys and sun-soaked hillsides that comprise this region’s diverse topography, allowing these warmth-loving grapes to thrive. Embracing the legacy of Izak’s 177, our Grenache stands as a testament to the history, beauty and boundless potential of South African vineyards.
