Description
The 2017 McIntyre Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir owes much of its success to superior terroir and diligent, sustainable farming. It combines specially cloned grapes from the McIntyre Estate Vineyard: 115 and “Old Vine.” The “Old Vine” block was planted more than four decades ago, making it the oldest plantings of Pinot Noir in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. It is own-rooted — a rarity in Californian winemaking. This results in grapes with a serious concentration of flavor, which makes for elegant and complex wines. This isn’t just a fruity Pinot; it has red berries, sure, but also notes of cedar, mushrooms, and mint that make it more Burgundian in style than Southern Californian.
