Description
Orphan Barrel Barterhouse is a 90.2 Proof (45.1% ABV) straight bourbon produced as a limited release from the Orphan Barrel Whiskey Co. This inaugural 2014 expression utilizes a high-corn mash bill of 86% corn, 8% malted barley, and 6% rye, originally distilled in 1993 at the Bernheim Distillery (DSP-KY-1) in Louisville. The liquid was matured for 20 years in the historic Stitzel-Weller rickhouses in Shively, Kentucky.
This extensive aging in a traditional seasonal climate allowed the spirit to develop a deeply concentrated character while maintaining its structural elegance. The resulting profile is sophisticated and mellow, leading with aromas of warm biscuits and buttercream that transition into a palate of roasted grain, charred oak, and brown sugar with a lingering, dry finish of leather and tobacco.
