Description
Orphan Barrel Old Blowhard is a 90.7 Proof (45.35% ABV) straight bourbon produced as a limited release from the Orphan Barrel Whiskey Co. This inaugural 2014 expression utilizes a high-corn mash bill of 86% corn, 8% malted barley, and 6% rye, originally distilled in 1987 at the Old Bernheim Distillery (DSP-KY-1) in Louisville. The liquid was matured for 26 years within the historic Stitzel-Weller rickhouses in Shively, Kentucky.
This nearly three-decade maturation in a traditional seasonal climate allowed for an extreme extraction of wood sugars and tannins. The resulting profile is exceptionally dense and woody, featuring heavy notes of seasoned oak, dark chocolate, and dry leather. These primary flavors are balanced by a deep undercurrent of molasses and vanilla, finishing with a robust and drying barrel spice.
