Orphan Barrel Castle’s Curse is a 94.8 Proof (47.4% ABV) single malt Scotch whisky produced as a limited release from the Teaninich Distillery. This 2023 expression is distilled from 100% malted barley and represents a rare standalone bottling from a distillery primarily known for its contribution to high-end blends. The liquid underwent 14 years of maturation in European oak barrels within the Highland climate, allowing for a robust interaction between the spirit and the wood.
This aging process results in a complex, oily texture that maintains the distillery’s signature vibrant character. The resulting profile is sophisticated and balanced, featuring initial notes of poached pear and dried apricots that transition into a palate of toasted almonds, orange zest, and a subtle hint of green apple with a spicy oak finish.
