Orphan Barrel Rhetoric 20 Year Old is a 90 Proof (45% ABV) straight bourbon produced as a limited release from the Orphan Barrel Whiskey Co. This inaugural 2014 expression in the progressively aged Rhetoric series utilizes a mash bill of 86% corn, 8% malted barley, and 6% rye. Originally distilled in 1993 at the Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, the liquid was moved to the historic Stitzel-Weller rickhouses for the duration of its maturation.
Two decades of aging in unheated, metal-clad warehouses allowed for pronounced seasonal temperature variations to drive deep spirit-to-wood interaction. This process yields a refined and complex profile of smoked vanilla, toasted oak, and baking spices, balanced by a mid-palate of dried fruit and a long, warming finish of dark chocolate and leather.
