Orphan Barrel Rhetoric 21 Year Old is a 90.2 Proof (45.1% ABV) straight bourbon produced as a limited release by the Orphan Barrel Whiskey Co. This 2015 expression is the second installment in the progressively aged Rhetoric series and utilizes a mash bill of 86% corn, 8% malted barley, and 6% rye. Originally distilled in 1993 at the Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, the liquid was moved to the historic Stitzel-Weller warehouses for the remainder of its maturation.
Aging for over two decades in unheated, metal-clad rickhouses allowed for pronounced seasonal temperature variations to drive deeper spirit-to-wood interaction. This evolutionary process yields a rich and complex profile of sweet tobacco, leather, and dark chocolate, balanced by heavy oak tannins and a long, spicy finish of black pepper and honey.
