Orphan Barrel Rhetoric 23 Year Old is a 90.6 Proof (45.3% ABV) straight bourbon produced as a limited release by the Orphan Barrel Whiskey Co. This 2017 expression represents the fourth installment in the progressively aged Rhetoric series and utilizes a distillery mash bill of 86% corn, 8% malted barley, and 6% rye. Originally distilled in 1993 at the Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, the liquid matured for over two decades within the historic Stitzel-Weller rickhouses.
The additional year of maturation in unheated, metal-clad warehouses further intensified the spirit-to-wood interaction compared to its predecessors. This evolutionary process yields a rich and complex profile of dark chocolate, toasted oak, and baking spices, balanced by a deep undercurrent of honey and leather with a long, woody finish.
