Orphan Barrel The Gifted Horse is a 115 Proof (57.5% ABV) American whiskey produced as a limited release from the Orphan Barrel Whiskey Co. This 2016 expression is a unique blend consisting of 38.5% 17-year-old straight bourbon distilled at the Bernheim Distillery which was accidentally mixed with 51% 4-year-old straight bourbon and 10.5% 4-year-old corn whiskey distilled at MGP Distillery. The liquid underwent its final maturation in the historic Stitzel-Weller rickhouses in Shively, Kentucky.
This unexpected marriage of aged stocks and younger grain spirit results in a bold, high-proof profile. The resulting spirit is surprisingly balanced, featuring initial notes of creamy caramel and toasted oak that transition into a palate of crisp apple, pear, and a distinct grain sweetness with a long, warming finish of baking spices.
