Description
The 2023 vintage at Panevino proved exceptionally challenging—downy mildew followed by intense heat reduced yields to roughly 15% of normal production. Panevino Survivor Rosso 2023 represents the fruit that endured, a field blend of indigenous Sardinian red grapes dominated by Cannonau alongside varieties like Monica, Carignano, and other near-forgotten local cultivars. Gianfranco Manca farms approximately six hectares of old bush-trained vines at 700 meters elevation near Nurri, on soils of clay, limestone, and schist. Fermentation occurs spontaneously in open wooden vats using native yeasts, followed by 12 months in older oak. No fining, filtration, or sulfites are added.
