Description
About This Wine
From the Mosconi vineyard in Monforte d’Alba, this 2020 release from Pio Cesare highlights a more structured, powerful side of Barolo while still benefiting from the vintage’s approachability.
The nose opens with black cherry, red plum, and crushed raspberry, layered with rose, dried herbs, and a firm mineral note. With air, it develops added depth—tar, iron, and a touch of spice—giving it a darker, more grounded profile than softer Barolo styles.
On the palate, the wine is structured and focused, with firm tannins that are present but well-shaped. The fruit is concentrated yet controlled, supported by fresh acidity that keeps everything in balance. Notes of licorice, tobacco, and stone carry through a long, steady finish.
The 2020 vintage offers a balance between early drinkability and underlying structure, and Mosconi’s natural intensity adds depth and aging potential. This is a Barolo built on structure rather than softness, showing well with air now but improving over time.
