Description
Sauvignon Blanc is a varietal grown in multiple parts of the world and has a different taste profile based on its growing location. California is known for lemon-lime, tropical flavors, and stainless steel aging while French winemakers enjoy aging in oak barrels which creates a bit more roundness in the mouthfeel and flavor profile. None, however, is more unique than New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Sauvignon Blanc accounts for nearly 80% of wine production coming out of the country and arguably put New Zealand’s winegrowing on the world stage. This wine in particular hails from Marlborough. Located on the northeastern tip of the South Island, the region has a warm, sunny climate and experiences cooling effects and coastal influences from winds that blow off of the Pacific Ocean. On the nose, herbaceous aromas jump out of the glass and marry with juicy, zesty fruit flavors and a mouth-puckering acidity. Because of the pronounced earthy notes, this wine is an excellent pair for fresh vegetable dishes of all kinds. A perfect porch pounder for hot summer nights!
