Description
Much like the crews who tend these vineyards, grapes from high-altitude regions like Mendoza, Argentina must adapt to extreme conditions. Our full-bodied Rancho Campo Cabernet is headstrong and rich with layers of tertiary fruit. These grapes were subjected to desert-like conditions due to towering mountain ranges blocking rain from both east and west. If it weren’t for the Mendoza river, which supplies water for irrigation, life here would be almost impossible. In addition to the ever-present risk of drought, the vineyards’ proximity to the sun creates another threatening factor. As elevations rise, levels of UV rays increase as much as 10-15% with every 1,000 foot gain in elevation. Luckily, wine grapes are adaptable. These Cab grapes developed thicker skins and multiplied their level of tannins to protect them from the sun’s scorching rays. This results in a structured wine with a solid backbone of ripe tannins. Each sip is a glimpse into Argentina’s rugged environment and the lives of the resilient people who make stunning wines like this possible.
