The Continental Distilling Corporation in Philadelphia, PA, which was formed once Prohibition ended, introduced Rittenhouse Square Rye in 1934. It was named after Philadelphias famous Rittenhouse Square, which itself was named after David Rittenhouse, a renowned astronomer, inventor, and mathematician.
