Description
Shadows on a Hill is a white wine from a wind-battered vineyard in Marin County’s Petaluma Gap AVA, just inland from the Pacific. Once farmed for Schramsberg’s sparkling program, the site is now being revived by winemaker Brent Mayeaux of Stagiaire Wine and vineyard steward David Rothschild. Organically farmed, the south-facing slope benefits from sunlight exposure that softens the harsh coastal winds. Yields are extremely low—under two tons per acre. Grapes were pressed and split: one portion fermented in stainless steel tank, the other in barrel, then combined and aged in old oak. A pure expression of coastal extremity.
