Description
The multi-award-winning winemakers at Whale Light have migrated to new lands to gather all the beauty and potential Washington terroir has to offer. This complex wine is crafted from fruit chosen from multiple vineyards around the state to showcase the characteristics of warm and cool climate Pinot Gris. Washington sits at one of the highest latitudes among the world’s wine regions. At first glance, one may write it off as being too cold and wet to ripen grapes properly. However, the Cascade Mountains cast a large rain shadow that protects the state’s renowned winegrowing regions from the downpours associated with its largest city, Seattle. This results in a short growing season but long daily sun exposure due to the state’s northerly location. This, combined with an extensive diurnal range, makes the perfect home for our Pinot Gris. These grapes take advantage of ample sunlight, allowing them to develop their full spectrum of fruit flavors while cooler nighttime temperatures slow ripening and preserve the fruit’s refreshing acidity.
