Description
In a state where multiple large mountain ranges dominate the geography, our delicious, dark fruited Whipstitch Malbec from Lodi demonstrates the importance of location. Growing conditions in many of California’s vineyards are affected by the state’s Coast Ranges. Stretching 400 miles along the west coast, this wall of mountains prevents inland vineyards from receiving the cooling influences from the Pacific Ocean that many other California winegrowing regions enjoy. But the Lodi AVA falls just inside the biggest gap in the Coast Ranges — the San Francisco Bay. Cooling mists and winds known as the “Delta Breeze” sweep inland from the ocean along the path of the Sacramento and San Joaquin river deltas. These afternoon winds help cool these inland vineyards, preserving the grape’s natural acidity and freshness. Here, our Malbec was allowed to stay true to its rich varietal flavor while maintaining just the right amount of refreshing acidity.
