Old Forester 2016 Birthday Bourbon is the fifteenth annual release in the brand’s vintage-dated series, bottled at 97 proof (48.5% ABV) and distilled at the Brown-Forman Distillery in Shively, Kentucky. The mash bill is Old Forester’s standard 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley.
Aged 12 years in new charred American white oak barrels — 93 barrels drawn from the 5th floor of Warehouse K, a mid-level position offering moderate, balanced heat exposure. This release marks the first vintage with a publicly disclosed barrel count and represented approximately 2,400 six-bottle cases — the largest production run in Birthday Bourbon history at the time.
