WhistlePig The Boss Hog V The Spirit Of Mauve Straight Rye Whiskey, 116.8 Proof (58.4% ABV), is a 2018 limited-edition, single-barrel release bottled at cask strength. Distilled by MGP in Indiana and independently finished and bottled at the WhistlePig Farm Distillery in Vermont, this expression features a 95% rye and 5% malted barley mash bill. Primary maturation occurred over 13 years in New American oak before the liquid was transferred to French Calvados apple brandy casks for its final structural finish.
The nose opens with crisp baked apple pie, deep toffee, dark oak, and warm baking spices. On the palate, a thick, viscous mouthfeel delivers dominant notes of stewed apples, maple syrup, pipe tobacco, and intense ginger spice. The experience concludes with a long finish defined by charred oak, French wood tannins, and lingering apple sweetness.
