Heaven Hill Select Stock Chinquapin Oak Finish is a highly allocated, 110 Proof (55% ABV) ultra-rare Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey originally released as a distillery-exclusive expression. This technical bottling features a 13-year-old bourbon base matured in new charred American white oak before undergoing a secondary finish in Chinquapin oak barrels (Quercus muehlenbergii). Chinquapin oak is prized by blenders for its higher density and unique porosity, which facilitates a chemical profile distinct from the standard white oak maturation.
Produced at the Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, this release utilized the classic 78% corn, 10% rye, and 12% malted barley mash bill. The secondary maturation in Chinquapin oak was specifically engineered to amplify the wood’s spicy and herbal character without the aggressive astringency of high-tannin woods. The resulting profile is defined by a dense concentration of brown sugar, cinnamon, and toasted nut esters, balanced by a sophisticated, dry wood finish that highlights the technical synergy between aged spirit and rare cooperage.
