Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series Selection No. 008 High Toast Maple Barrel Finish Straight Tennessee Rye is an innovative experimental allocation released in July 2022 alongside its sister bottling, No. 009. Selected by Whiskey Taster Josh Phillips, this expression marked the official rebranding of the 375ml line from “Tennessee Tasters” to the “Distillery Series.” The liquid was originally barreled in March of 2017, undergoing primary maturation in standard charred American white oak for over five years. In September 2021, the spirit was transferred into specialized high-toast, uncharred maple wood barrels for an extensive secondary finishing period of nearly one year.

This uncommon wood choice allowed the sweet, sap-rich properties of maple to chemically interact with the mature rye without the smoky interference of char. Bottled at 101 proof, the resulting technical framework yields an exceptionally smooth, oily viscosity characterized by dense layers of maple syrup, toasted marshmallows, gingerbread spice, and a distinctive sweet wood finish.
