Distillery Information
Willett Distillery was founded in 1936 by Thompson Willett in Bardstown, Kentucky, on land that had been in the Willett family since the 1800s. Thompsons grandfather, John David Willett, was a master distiller at the Moore, Willett & Frenke Distillery in Bardstown, establishing the familys deep roots in Kentuckys distilling tradition. Thompson and his father Lambert Willett used John Davids bourbon recipes as the foundation for the Old Bardstown whiskey brand. The distillery produced its first batch of whiskey on March 17, 1937. Over the years, the Willett family expanded their operations, launching brands like Johnny Drum Bourbon in the 1960s. Despite challenges, including the distillerys closure in the 1980s, the Willett family has maintained a commitment to quality and tradition in bourbon production.
